Perrier‐Jouët was founded in 1811 by Pierre‐Nicolas Perrier and Rose Adélaide Jouët, on the avenue de Champagne in Epernay. During the last 200 years, just seven Cellar Masters passed on the secrets of their art, and today, Hervé Deschamps perpetuates this heritage and cultivates the distinctive style of Perrier‐Jouët wines. Chardonnay is the house’s predominant grape, coming from the best plots in the Côte de Blancs, in the Cramant and Avizes Grand Cru appelations. Their Pinot Noir, coming mainly from the Mailly Grand Cru, on the south of the Montagne de Reims, is considered to be fresh and delicate. Pinot Noirs from Aÿ Grand Cru and Pinot Meuniers from Dizy Premier Cru appelation in the Vallée de la Marne tend to confer generosity, charm and elegance. Hervé will show us a great selection of his work. We will start with his Grand Brut for the apéritif, followed by several vintages of his Cuvée Belle Epoque. First, his new 2004 vintage, followed by 2002 and the extraordinary 1996, in a Jeroboam ! And to finish with dessert, Cuvée Belle Époque Rosé 2002. Cuvée Belle Époque, which is the “cuvee prestige” of Perrier‐Jouët, highlights the oenological style the house is known for, the floral notes coming from the Chardonnays of the Côte de Blancs. The dinner will be held at the beautiful J.P. Hennessy Room of St. George, at the Hullet House, and Chef Philippe Orrico, a former protégé of Pierre Gagnaire, is preparing an exquisite menu for us.
